The Temple and I, a famous work by Chinese author Shi Tiesheng, was recently published in Spanish.

Shi’s magnum opus, The Temple and I was listed in the project of “promoting Chinese authors and their works in the Spanish region”, organized by the State Council Information Office. The Spanish version of The Temple and I will help people in Latin America learn more about Chinese culture. The book was written by Shi when he was overwhelmed with the sorrow of paralysis, with no job and no hope for his future. It was when he “suddenly could not find anything in his life” that he walked into the Temple of Earth which gave him the inspirational thinking and strength for living. Shi described the people and things he met in the Temple of Earth, and recorded his own thoughts on life. The book is deeply philosophical.

The project of “promoting Chinese authors and their works in the Spanish region” was approved by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and supported by a special fund for cultural industry of the Ministry of Finance. The project aims to promote Chinese literature to the Spanish region which has a population of more than 400 million, and help more foreigners learn about Chinese culture.
