Wang Yong stresses guarantees of a basic livelihood for poverty-stricken people
When State Councilor Wangyong recently investigated work in Hunan province on civil affairs, including those of disabled persons, he went to visit and comfort disabled persons, veterans, and people living on minimum subsistence allowances, and stressed that he would pay a great deal of attention to livelihood guarantees for poverty-stricken people, allowing them to enjoy a warm and happy upcoming Spring Festival.
Wang emphasized that it’s an important responsibility of governments at all levels to guarantee a basic standard of living for poverty-stricken and disabled people. Large-scale medical assistance and temporary relief should be provided, as should cost of living subsidies for poverty-stricken disabled persons and nursing allowances for people with severe disabilities.
He also stressed the significance of mobilizing the strength of society as a whole to launch social relief and aid, social mutual help, and volunteering services to provide more security to people in straitened circumstances.
