CDPF chairwoman meets with president of Fujita Health University

Zhang welcomed the delegation, saying that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of the cause of people with disabilities, and emphasized the goal that “everyone in need has access to rehabilitation services.” The Chinese government has promulgated and implemented the Regulations on Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. The rehabilitation and prevention of disabilities have been incorporated into the overall national health undertakings and the Healthy China action.

The CDPF has always been prioritizing the rehabilitation work. It has promoted the construction of a rehabilitation university, to cultivated more rehabilitation professionals.

Zhang stressed that rehabilitation is the most urgent need for China's 85 million people with disabilities, including 44 million elders needing daily care. The construction of a university of rehabilitation was included in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020). An organization for coordinating and advancing the university was jointly participated in and advanced by multiple departments of the State Council and Shandong province. Overall planning and discipline design of the rehabilitation university is now underway.

The construction of the rehabilitation university enjoys a high starting point and international perspective, and highly valued the international cooperation, said Zhang, adding that she hopes professional institutions in China and Japan will strengthen practical cooperation in talent training, science and technology research, as well as discipline construction in related to rehabilitation, and to learn from each other’s advanced ideas and experience, train more professional rehabilitation talents and work together for a better life for people with disabilities.

Eiichi Saito hailed the rapid development of the cause of people with disabilities in China, and especially the construction of a rehabilitation university, which he said is of great significance.

He added that Japan and China are close neighbors separated only by a strip of water but connected by heart, and that Fujita Health University is willing to further exchange and cooperate with the CDPF to jointly promote the training of rehabilitation talents.
