The China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF) urged improvement of legal aid services for people with disabilities across the country in a videoconference held on July 28.

Lv Shiming, vice-chairman of the CDPF, required that disabled persons’ federations at all levels should realize the importance of legal aid services for people with disabilities in promoting the rule of law and modernization of governance in China, and accelerate full coverage of legal aid services and construction of legal aid workstations for people with disabilities.

The conference briefed the national legal aid work for people with disabilities. The disabled persons’ federations of Beijing and Hainan exchanged on the work of legal aid. A short video about the legal aid work in Zhenjiang, East China’s Jiangsu province was showed at the conference.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), different government departments jointly promoted legal aid work for people with disabilities, and a legal aid system for the disabled was formed. It provides important support and guarantees for the protection of their rights and interests in accordance with the law, and should be further improved during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), according to the conference.
